Sushilene: Sushi, Soup, Karaoke, Punk, & Graphic Organizers

See picture above.

Okay, this one will take some explaining. Last night was Sushilene- A sushi making extravaganza in celebration of Angelene's birthday. We made sushi at their house, did a bunch of karaoke, and ended the night at the Wetlands where we saw the Richard Hedders, a fantastic punk band we know from Corvallis. They could be the stars of a punk mockumentary because they are literally a satire of themselves. Angelene got nice and toasty and flashed her boobies on stage. Twice. Picture omitted.

At some points in the show, the music was loud and it was hard to talk to Patrick, with whom I was seated. So we took to communicating on keno tickets with golf pencils. The first drawing is a flow chart to find Patrick's ass (play along, kiddies!), which morphed into more of a slam on our moms and mathematical references. The second is a mind map of...something...I'm not really sure, but I know it all comes back to Your Mom in the end. And smiles are the beginning of it all.

The last slip of paper is a venn diagram comparing Patrick to me. Notice that the overlap of circles indicates things we have in common, such as a "proclivity to proclaim ones awesomeness" and "we hate water chestnuts" and "lefarious," which I looked up and did not find in the dictionary. So apparently we were making words up. In the outer parts of the circles, it is noted that Patrick has a penis and I have a vagina. He is also oceany and I am rivery, in regards to family houses. He is also 24 and 3/4 whereas I am 24 and 11/12.

That just about sums it up. Happy birthday Angelene, happy keno ramblings to me and Patrick. Happy whiskey to Rachel. Happy siblings to Bruce & Liz. Happy burger to Bunny. Happy Grease Sing-A-Long to Matt, and happy red fleece shirt to John. Happy "got some sleep last night: to Liz, Robin, & Evan. Happy pool sharkness to Sammy. Peace out, my friends.

Final Project Presentation

Click on Photo to Enlarge Posted by Hello

This is a photo of my group from Multiple Methods of Research, a class that will end on Monday following my one and only final, thank god. We did a survey of research having to do with school bullying and decorated ourselves appropriately to the topic. It went well, except that our professor cut us off before we could show our last, culminating video clip, saying that we had exceeded our time limit. The problem was that we hadn't, and it was incredibly rude of her not to let us finish. Interruptions aside, it is done, and we had fun duct-taping things to our shirts, at least.

I have one more smallish project and a test left and then...FREEDOM. For a week. Over which I will be going crazy with job search materials and won't have any money. But still...FREEDOM! No more discussions of qualitative research, single subject design, quality education model, content-based instruction, academic v. social language, sheltered English, or any other topic requiring thought. Instead, I'm going to watch a lot of Oprah and eat a lot of Easter candy, especially those little milk chocolate robin eggs. Yummy. I could seriously eat those all day, and maybe I will, it fits my spring break budget.

Hobbits

Good news for all you role-play, sci-fi people that can't distinguish between fiction and reality! The distinction is becoming more vague, so dress in renaissance garb, grab your staff and dagger, and pray to your goddess! And don't forget the Magic cards!

´Hobbit was a smart little human` say scientists
"The team had found the remains of seven tiny people, including one nearly complete skull of a 30-year-old woman. They dubbed the fossils homo floresiensis. "

"The scientific community took to calling it the Hobbit after the diminutive characters in J.R.R. Tolkien's books. LB1, a female, measures at just 1 meter in height and has some surprisingly advanced features which negate an earlier theory that it was a diseased human being. "

Rules for Teachers in 1915

I'm glad times have changed. Posted by Hello

I would have never gotten a job in 1915. I'm okay with not keeping company with men, but they can't stop me from loitering downtown near ice cream stores. That's just plain inhumane.

Rachel Braves 25

Happy Birthday Rachel! Posted by Hello

Rachel has been trying on 25 since last night (at Tasty Thai). She is still alive and doesn't seem strangely older and odder, so I think I'm okay with turning 25 next month. Thanks for being the age guinea pig Rach.

Poodle Likes My Underwear

Poodle Kitty Posted by Hello

Well, this settles it. I need one of those tall looming cat towers if I am to avoid hair in my underwear. She has the face of an angel and hair like pine needles.

The Last Practicum of Graduate School

Oh boy, next term is going to be challenging. In addition to three classes and an extra long seminar, I have a new class to GTF for (and a professor who will make me go to the class/actually do work), working in the computer lab, two job fairs, the ESOL Praxis (my ESL license exam), and a ten-hour per week practicum. I wrote to the teacher I'll be working with in practicum, and this was her description of the class:

"I think you'll love these first grade students. There are 20 in the class with 6 being ESL students with varying degrees of competency. We also have 2 identified Asperger Syndrone boys and some very bright and "interesting" other children. Makes for a lot of fun...and I mean that truthfully."

Oh boy, oh boy. Not only have I never actually worked with ESL kids, I have very little experience with Asperger's Syndrome and I have NEVER worked in a first grade classroom. Yikes. Yikes. Yikes.

Glossary for Non-Ed People:
ESOL
- English for Speakers of Other Languages, my graduate emphasis
Practicum- Part-time placement in a classroom where you teach small units & groups
GTF- Graduate Teaching Fellow, assisting in a college class to pay for grad school
Asperger's Syndrome- High functioning Autism
First Grade- Primary elementary grade in which students still publicly pick their noses
"Interesting"- Children that are hell on wheels
